Female Speaker: And we'd love to hear from you and find out what you want to know to help make your lives better. You want to know how to be successful in your carrier and save money and a number of viewers have shared their questions with us in todays Your Money Better's finance and career expert, Maribel Aber is here to answer those questions.
Female Speaker: Hi Maribel.
Maribel Aber: Hi.
Female Speaker: Okay so we've recently talked about building a good resume.
Maribel Aber: Yes.
Female Speaker: So one of your viewers has a question about how to best sell themselves. Male Speaker: Hey Maribel, what are some good ways to promote your resume?
Maribel Aber: Thank you very much, this is a great question because when you get your resume done you want to promote it and market it you don't want to just sit there right. So just like people are taking advantage of Facebook for social networking, website called Linkedin is a great one for professional networking and what it allows you to do is create sort of a mini bio of yourself and the target I think I read on the website was 70 million people.
Female Speaker: Wow.
Maribel Aber: Crazy like 200 countries and the great thing about this is headhunters actually use Linkedin as a database. So that recruiters will look for people, but also post jobs, so that's one great way. Another great way is develop your own website, I mean people like Google each other now right, I'll trying to do diligence so why not create something that's your content, it shows the best work that you've developed, your accomplishments and also testimony also about different peoples work experience with you.
Female Speaker: Maribel our next question it seems to come out every single year right around this time. Female Speaker 1: Hey Maribel with the weather getting warmer what's the appropriate business attire for work this summer.
Maribel Aber: Ah, the perennial what do I wear doing this summer time right? Well the first thing is you want to look to see what your dress code policy is with your office that's number one. I don't know what happens now I think people get kind a like hey why or crazy they don't know what to wear they're coming in flip flops and t shirts and what have you, but even if you have a corporate policy check with your manager because if you're touching clients then you may have to dress a little bit differently, but let's say they allow for khakis or summer dresses keep in mind is this something I walk into a meeting with, is this something I'd go into with my boss or is it really cute for a Sunday walk with my dog so you want to make sure.
Female Speaker: So what about open toed shoes this is another big one.
Maribel Aber: Yes.
Female Speaker: When you mentioned flip flops those are --.
Maribel Aber: Yes, those are no put them in your purse. What I do carry it with you if you need to walk to work that kind of thing. But in corporate culture open toe is becoming a little bit more accepted, yes but I would say not to wear wheeling and definitely a close back heel like a palm, no strappies or three inch heels and definitely not sandals for corporate setting.
Female Speaker: Okay, good advice. And now our last question actually comes from a viewer that wrote in looking for advice on opening up a new credit card. Here is his question. How bad is it to close a credit card to open a new card that offers better incentives like air miles?
Maribel Aber: If you have had the card for a long time, you've been paying your bills on time, it's offering a low fee you may want to consider keeping it. But on the flip if it's high interest, high annual fees, you may consider you know the long will be better to shut that down, but there is nothing wrong with opening a card that's you need and the key is that you need it. I mean if it offers you know air miles, rewards what have you it's a great thing, it helps to built your credit history.
Female Speaker: Thank you so much Maribel. If you have financial or career questions for Maribel here email her and AskMaribel@BetterTV.com.
